Excel by Eight in Little Rock

The City of Little Rock serves as the lead organization for Excel by Eight’s Little Rock steering committee and is also a Local Lead for early childhood education through the Arkansas Department of Education.

With support from a National League of Cities grant, the city launched a cohort of 12 child care centers — primarily in underserved ZIP codes — to improve Better Beginnings ratings, helping providers qualify for higher reimbursement rates and expand quality care. This work builds on a child care mapping project, revealing significant gaps and guiding efforts to strengthen early learning infrastructure across Little Rock.
